Hammer and Vajra

There are many scholarly sources regarding Mithraism. Many showing that not only did it predate Christianity (though both cults reached their height at the same time) they also say it had made its way to Northern Europe before Christianity. Mithra / Mitra is an Aryan Sun God who had origins in the Vedic faith. He was a part of the Persian religion and adapted as Mithras in the Roman empire Since men and Soldiers primarily worshipped him he merged easily into Sol Invictus, the Unconquered Sun. Rome also included Jupiter/Zeus, Apollo, and Osiris to name a few under Sol Invictus. Later Christian concepts were swapped in keeping the Sol Invictus but changing him to Jesus. The Sun imagery (Halos, the Cross etc) was maintained and included in the new religion of Catholicism. Interesting note- Mitra, in the Vedas, was often referred to as Mitra-Varuna. Varuna was associated as a King/Sky God figure similar to Dyáuṣ Pitṛ́ (Vedic Sanskrit: Dyáuṣpitṛ́, द्यौष्पितृ, literally ‘Sky Father’).

A little meditation post Halloween regarding everyone's favorite concept the Vampyre and the Sun.  Why should a vampire fear a cross?   Is it the Christ they fear?   Or is it the Sun?  The Sun that represents life in a stark contrast to their embodiment of death. The cross is just a holy symbol adopted by Christianity (regardless of methods of crucifixion) which represents the Sun and cycles of the Sun. If a Vampyre is of the Dead, undead, living dead. Then the Sun puts them to rest or brings life to the death. A dead body is Cold, like Winter, and a live body has warmth like Spring. The Sun brings the spring which brings life. The Solar Cross represents life. Solar worship is one of the primary means of interpreting the All or Existence and life itself. Without the Sun we would not have life or existence. There is very little biblically to support the concept of a personal guardian angel aside from a few verses. In the Bible the Abrahamic God usually sent an angelic being down to carry a message or perform an act, such as protecting a biblical character. This alone does not make up for the fact that many Christians, primarily those of European ancestry, have a strong belief in guardian angels. There have been many paintings of guardian angels throughout Europe since the renaissance (and possible before). While this is not biblically sound it is supported in Germanic Heathenism. The concept is that of the Disir (plural). “A Dis (Lady) is a ghost, spirit or deity associated with fate who can be either benevolent or antagonistic towards mortals” (Wikipedia). It can be said that Dis are ghost, ancestors who are watching over their descendants.
